Five-star fitness instructor with results-orientated approach

I used to think that the pandemic would prevent me from keeping my healthy and active lifestyle, until a chance encounter over the summer with my favorite fitness instructor. Since then, I have been training with Blayne and I am happy to say that my lifestyle is back on track. Blayne is a triple-threat in the fitness world. Specifically:

  1. Versatility: Blayne is accredited in a gazillion certifications that allow her to teach a diverse range of classes, including Pilates, Barre, Melt, Cycling, and strength training. I have taken her classes in all available formats (group, private, buddy) over the past 10 years at my local UWS gym, and have always looked forward to finding my spot in class among the other cult followers. Blayne was “the” sought-after instructor.

Since the pandemic, Blayne has made it possible to continue to offer her classes in the safest manner and across all preferences, whether outdoors/indoors, in person/by zoom, and in group/in private.

  2. Results-orientated: Blayne is driven to helping her clients achieve the results they seek. Her classes (including movement, sequence, repetition) are meticulously put together to optimize efficiency and maximize performance.

As another example, Blayne invested in a Pilates Cadillac Reformer as a devotion to her craft, so that she can further help her clients.

  3. Rehabilitation: No fitness regime is complete without an effective rehabilitation program. On Sunday mornings, Blayne teaches a great Melt group class (by zoom) that has been helping to reset my spine for the week ahead of working from my makeshift home desk (formerly known as my kitchen table during pre-pandemic times).

I suffer from lower back pain and love the hip + SI joint + calf muscle sequence that she does. The class is more holistic than that, but that particular sequence is my favorite. It’s as though I’m giving myself a rejuvenating massage.

ACTOR. SINGER. GRAPHIC/WEB DESIGNER. KNITTER. HISTORY BUFF.

I get ridiculously excited about effective communication through design and I high-five myself when I solve a problem (in code, in design, in life). I yell the answers (not in the form of a question) at Jeopardy contestants and laugh heartily when I’m dead wrong.

etg design studio is a boutique design and web studio founded by me (Eliza Gilbert) in 2001. I work with small businesses, non profits, artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs to build custom, results-driven Squarespace websites that represent who they are and attract their ideal client or customer.

But, wait! That’s not all! I also fly like the wind with desktop publishing, have mad design skills, and chew on branding mood boards for a snack!

I have a corporate background in design, communication, and consulting (with a focus on helping companies communicate with their employees) and a freelance background specializing in small businesses, theatre companies, nonprofits, and the arts.

After working regionally in theatre and light opera -- and then enjoying a 13+ year career as a Graphic Designer and a Communication Consultant -- I returned to school and finished a BFA in Acting from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro that I had begun in my 20s.

The knitting is slow going and I sometimes get distracted from it. As for history... I'm a junkie. Documentaries and biographies are my drug. Lately I'm a little obsessed with Prohibition and late 19th / early 20th century US sociological and political history.
